John Moe

Managing Director – Investments

John Moe currently serves as Managing Director – Investments where he is responsible for helping The Blackstone Group underwrite new acquisitions in the Western Region and is an asset manager for other existing properties in the Equity Office national portfolio, including the recently acquired GE portfolio and the 2 million square foot mixed-use Solana redevelopment in Westlake, Texas. He previously served as Market Managing Director for Northern California and Seattle from 2006 to 2014 where he had responsibility for the company’s largest concentration of office and R&D properties comprising approximately 22 million square feet, 232 buildings, and oversight of 220 professionals in property management, leasing, asset management, investment, construction and engineering. He was actively involved in the disposition of approximately 20 million square feet in the CarrAmerica and Equity Office portfolios.

Mr. Moe has 32 years of extensive experience in leading teams in asset management, property operations, leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, and construction management. His property experience encompasses approximately 46 million square feet of high-rise and suburban office and R&D properties in several major metropolitan markets across the U.S. Prior to his affiliation with Blackstone, he served as Senior Vice President with CarrAmerica overseeing its 6 million square foot Northern California portfolio. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Moe served as Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management with DivcoWest where he oversaw the firm’s office and R&D portfolios in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles. Mr. Moe also held several senior leasing and asset management positions in Southern California with William Wilson & Associates and Maguire Thomas Partners from 1988 to 2000. John has a proven track record of directly negotiating and managing teams in leasing over 30.2M square feet, including some of the largest leases in the West coast and his investment experience includes hands on acquisition and disposition diligence of over 23.4M square feet of property in excess of $7.4B. He provided extensive property diligence in the mega mergers transactions of William Wilson & Associates/Cornerstone Properties, Wilson Cornerstone/Equity Office, and The Blackstone Group’s acquisition of Trizec Properties, Equity Office and Glenborough portfolios.

Mr. Moe earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Davis, and an MBA. with concentrations in Urban Land Economics and Corporate Finance from the University of Southern California. He is a licensed Broker in California, is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), and a Certified Property Manager (CPM). He currently serves on the Policy Advisory Board for the Fisher Center for Urban Economics, U.C. Berkeley Haas School of Business, and is an Executive Board Member for The City of Hope Real Estate and Construction Council in Northern California. Mr. Moe is also a Full Member of the Urban Land Institute and an active member of NAIOP San Francisco and Silicon Valley chapters. He started his career with Bechtel Corporation and Lincoln Property Company.
